Tesoro Metal Detectors
Quote from Mike on June 28, 2020, 8:53 pmIt has amazed me over the years how so few people could be convinced, even seeing it with their own eyes how good Analog detectors and especially the Tesoro detectors work in heavy Iron.
I have a Mojave that cost around 200 new (Tesoro is no longer in business) and is still my go-to metal detector in farm fields where there is little to no modern trash and heavy concentrations of iron. I've tested it (along with others with me) up against the latest and greatest and its never disappointed me and surprised a number of people.

Quote from Swamp Fox on September 6, 2020, 2:05 amI remember looking at the Tesoro detectors when I was a kid. There was no way I could have afforded one then.
Yesterday I picked up a Tesoro Sidewinder on Craig's List.
I was not exactly in the market for another detector as I am still learning my Simplex, but the price was right, so I grabbed it.
The housing is cracked, but other than that, it is in great shape to be ~25 years old. It came with the original manual & Tesoro bag.
At least I have a spare detector now. Hopefully, I can entice my wife to go detecting with me as well.
If anyone knows where I can find a housing please let me know. My search has not been productive so far.

Quote from Swamp Fox on December 11, 2020, 8:35 pmHi Joanna,
The bag is in great shape. The detector works very well. Although it is analog, I feel like it is another tool in my detecting toolbox. Not ideal for every situation, but still nice to have around. Considering what I paid for it, I am going to hang on to it. I have a spare for my primary detector or I can offer it to someone who gave me permission to hunt their property in case they would like to try metal detecting. My wife has not taken me up on the offer yet, but she is very interested in history & relics, so I still have a chance.

Quote from Mike on January 23, 2021, 4:33 amThats great you picked one up! I still love those old Tesoro's. I have no clue on a housing except I bet Keith Wills at East Texas metal detectors would have one. Give him a call sometime.

Quote from Swamp Fox on January 24, 2021, 3:39 amThanks Mike. I was able to repair the cracked housing with some JB Weld & thin sheet metal. The crack was on the underside where the housing mounts to the shaft. Other than that, it is in great shape & works well. I would still like to replace the housing if possible. I will give Keith Wills a shout and see what he has.
