Tomorrows hunt!
Quote from Mike on January 8, 2021, 11:05 amThe last several months have been rough and hectic. I've been in Ohio with my 3 year old son taking care of my mom. I've been away from my wife and amazing step daughter and I haven't been able to get out. The good news is mom is doing really good and I will be going home monday the 11th.
Because of moms health she hasn't been able to watch my son alone and because of Covid no one comes to the house so I haven't been able to get out alone and metal detect. My wife is flying in today and tomorrow I will be out in a spot I have been trying to track down for many years.
A few counties over from where I'm staying is one of the earliest towns in this part of Ohio. It was said to be where a creek flowed into a river. Myself and at least a few detectorists I know of have looked for it over the years. The last few years, coming back to Ohio to see family and care for mom I stepped up my research.
I can't go into details on why I think I found it but I am positive I have found it almost 2 miles from where the creek meets the river. The big lesson I learned is 2 miles is very close to where it was described when it was mentioned considering at that time Ohio would have still been a wild frontier.
What I'm not sure of is if the field I have permission for held any of the town. I know directly across the creek was a mill for the town (you can still see the outline of the mill race on google earth) the problem with that field is they haven't planted in that field for years and it has brush 6 feet tall in it. The other side of the creek (where I have permission) is much higher and is where I suspect much of the town sat. If my hunch is right I think tomorrow will be an amazing day but we shall see!

Quote from Mike on January 23, 2021, 4:29 amSo the update. this site has me confused! It's hard to explain without going into detail but I KNOW i'm in the right area. I know exactly where the mill sat but the ground is very very low on that side and I can't imagine any houses down there on that side of the creek. There's a BIG clue on the side I have permission for suggesting it would be there or at least part of it but... wasn't there. I dont know, this one has me shaking my head trying to figure it out. One day maybe I will be able to visit the area again and solve the mystery.

I have tracked down some pretty obscure sites with little to nothing to go on and this one has me scratching my head but won't give up on it. The field where I know the mill is overgrown, they haven't planted in it for a few years but i'm working on finding out when they will plant in it again.
